Strainer Ladle

october 2007 - december 2007
objective: design and manufacture a more versatile ladle
concept exploration: CAD model
manufacturing process: lathe, horizontal band saw, dividing head on the mill
the completed strainer ladle

This improved ladle that easily grasps pasta, strains foods, and also carries liquids in just one scoop. To settle on this idea of a strainer ladle, I brainstormed, researched, and weighed the benefits of my different ideas. After selecting which concept to pursue, I proceeded to discuss my manufacturing plan with peers and advisors and created a CAD model. I then machined my piece using a lathe and a dividing head on a mill.

My final strainer ladle effectively performs all three of its intended functions: grabbing, straining, and scooping.
